Tharaka Nithi County residents thronged streets to celebrate as the new Deputy President Kithure Kindiki took oath of office in a celebration witnessed by President William Ruto on Friday at KICC, Nairobi.

Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki was confident Prof Kindiki will unite the Country and champion developments in equal measures all over the Country.

"I extend hearty congratulations to His Excellency Professor Abraham Kithure Kindiki, The third Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya," Governor Njuki said.

He praised President Ruto for trusting “our son to be part of your leadership and vision.”

Mr Njuki who was in Nairobi the entire part of the day, said residents were happy to see their son rise to the helm of being the second in command.

"The People of Tharaka Nithi are grateful for the honour of being at the forefront of the Kenya Kwanza administration and join millions of Kenyans in celebrating the beginning of something truly historic in our Country," he said.

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza's advisor Gideon Kimathi led jubilant residents carrying placards showing solidarity and love for Prof Kindiki.

Mr Kimathi said the appointment of Kindiki is historic as no other son from Mt Kenya East region has been Deputy President.

"We overwhelmingly voted to almost 100 percent… we are happy you have reciprocated. We will be behind you and support your agenda. We ask other leaders with different choices to shun from divisive politics," Mr Kimathi said.

At Irunduni village where Deputy President hails from, there was a celebration packaged in songs and dance.

Many praised the President for the bold move and remembering to pick a person of great calibre and highest integrity.

Meru deputy governor Mutuma M'Ethingia said they are confident that commitment and expertise will be instrumental in supporting the President in implementing his agenda to Kenyans.

"I extend my heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency Prof Kindiki on his swearing-in as DP. Prof Kindiki has shown exemplary leadership as CS Interior, strengthening national security and ensuring efficient coordination of government programmes," Mr M'Ethingia said.

Meru Senator Kathuri Murungi said Prof Kindiki's leadership is an inspiration to many.

"Your leadership and dedication inspire us all. Wishing you success as you serve the nation," he said.

MCA Thuranira Grace said: “May I take this opportunity to thank our Heavenly Father for giving us DP in our Mt Kenya region. May Almighty God also bless our President. Almighty God bless him and congratulations my brother. We will not let you down and also never let us down.”

"May Almighty God be with you all the time," Ms Thuranira said.
