The second annual Transforming African MedTech Conference (TAMC) is scheduled to take place from Wednesday to Friday this week, in Nairobi, Kenya.
Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, TAMC 2024 is set to be a significant milestone in advancing medical technology across Africa.
The conference will provide a unique platform where industry leaders, health care professionals, policymakers, and innovators can gather to discuss and shape the future of health care through cutting-edge medical technologies.
This year’s focus will be on addressing the most critical challenges in the MedTech sector, while also highlighting groundbreaking innovations and encouraging collaboration among stakeholders.
Key discussions at TAMC 2024 will revolve around increasing access to capital for local MedTech startups and infrastructure, along with opportunities for MedTech and diagnostic contract manufacturing for international organisations.
Other key topics include exploring market-shaping avenues, with emphasis on both supply and demand-side strategies such as pooled procurement, market consolidation, and protection.
The conference will also explore the harmonisation of regulatory frameworks across Africa and ensure that local startups have a voice in these critical conversations.
Ultimately, these discussions are expected to produce policy briefs and strategies aimed at accelerating the development and commercialisation of medical devices, diagnostics, and equipment across the continent.
The event will feature interactive sessions and workshops covering key topics such as regulatory frameworks, funding opportunities, and the implementation of new technologies in clinical settings.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in product demonstrations and exhibitions showcasing the latest advancements in medical technology, alongside a pitching competition that will spotlight startups from across Africa.
The Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi will serve as the venue, providing a conducive environment for networking, discussions, and exhibitions.
Renowned experts, influential policymakers, and visionary innovators will headline TAMC 2024, ensuring that the event becomes a key forum for collaboration and knowledge exchange.
MedTech Advisor and Chair of the TAMC Organising Committee Wambui Gachiengo Nyabero has emphasised the importance of the event in shaping the future of African health care.
“The goal of TAMC 2024 is to bring together medical technology stakeholders from across the African continent to discuss opportunities and challenges in the medical device and diagnostics industry,” Ms Nyabero said.
She added that the event will also serve to build capacity through training and educational opportunities, equipping participants with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the evolving MedTech industry.
Having been launched in 2023, TAMC has already established itself as a critical platform for collaboration in the African MedTech sector.
In 2023, the event attracted over 120 MedTech delegates from 14 countries, underscoring the growing demand for collaboration and networking in the health sector.
Organisers further pointed out that TAMC 2024 aims to accelerate progress in the MedTech industry, ultimately contributing to improved health care access and outcomes across the African continent.
