The National Police College Main Campus Kiganjo in Nyeri County has received a major boost in its water supply infrastructure following the handover of a newly sunk borehole by Ms Tessie Musalia, chairperson of Ushirika Wema Foundation and wife to the Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.

Speaking during the event, Ms Musalia highlighted the immense dedication and sacrifice exhibited daily by officers of the National Police Service (NPS).

She acknowledged the pressure faced by officers and praised their resilience in the face of growing national demands.

“We do acknowledge the pressure, sacrifice, and resilience required of our officers daily. In the same breath, we commend the Government of Kenya, through its various departments, on the ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of NPS officers so they can carry out their duties seamlessly,” Ms Musalia said.

She noted that improved welfare directly enhances the responsiveness and effectiveness of the country's security systems.

The borehole project is part of Ushirika Wema Foundation’s Kuzingatia Mazingira Yetu Programme, an initiative that focuses on environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Ms Musalia emphasized that the initiative is not merely about infrastructure, but a renewed commitment to supporting officers and affirming their dignity and resilience.

“Today, we are not just inaugurating a borehole; we are inaugurating hope – a symbol of our commitment to those who serve and protect us daily,” she added.

According to Ms Musalia, plans are underway to extend similar initiatives to other police institutions including the National Police Service College Embakasi A and B campuses, the General Service Unit (GSU) Embakasi B Campus, GSU Drive-In Campus, and the Utawala Academy.

Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, lauded the initiative as a transformative step towards improving the welfare of police trainees and officers.

He praised the Foundation’s role and reiterated the critical role water plays in national development.

“This project marks a significant step towards enhancing water access for the National Police College Main Campus Kiganjo. I wish to acknowledge and commend Ushirika Wema Foundation for this outstanding initiative,” he said.

The Inspector General further noted that water remains a vital resource for Kenya’s socio-economic progress and emphasized the importance of protecting such infrastructure.

He referenced the establishment of the Water Resource Police Unit, which was formed to safeguard water-related infrastructure under the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation from vandalism and theft.

“As Inspector General, the welfare of NPS personnel remains a top priority. This project and the generous donation from Ushirika Wema Foundation will go a long way in ensuring this premier college delivers on its mandate of training staff to the highest standards of competence and integrity,” he stated.

Mr Kanja also assured that the National Police Service would ensure the sustainability of the project through proper maintenance and resource management.

He commended officers for their patriotism and urged them to continue serving the nation with dedication and integrity.

“I urge you all to uphold your fidelity to the Constitution and continue discharging your duties without fear or favour,” he said.

The borehole project was made possible through a partnership involving the Ushirika Wema Foundation and Regner Fu Capital Group, which also played a key role in its implementation.
