Wavinya: 'Delays in disbursement of counties' cash disastrous'

Many counties are currently unable to service basic obligations such as paying staff salaries due to limited capacity in Own Source Revenue (OSR).

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has urged the National Treasury to expedite the disbursement of equitable share to counties.

Her call comes just a few days after the Council of Governors wrote to the Senate's Finance Committee raising the red flag over the delayed disbursement that has led to cash crunch crisis in the counties.

Addressing journalists after attending a special Mass to mark the annual meeting of Catholic Women Association (CWA) at Our Lady of Fatima Katoloni on Saturday, Governor Ndeti lamented that the continued delay in releasing cash to county governments had triggered a crisis in service delivery.

“It's three(3) months and still counting and the National Government is yet to release funds to the counties. The situation has made it difficult for many counties to offer essential services to citizens," the county boss said.

The governor noted that many counties are currently unable to service basic obligations such as paying staff salaries due to limited capacity in Own Source Revenue (OSR).

“Here in Machakos we have tried to make up for the delay through mobilising Own Source Revenue to pay our staff as we grapple with other basic needs and services for the residents," she added.

Machakos Bishop Norman Kin’goo of the Catholic Diocese of Machakos urged women to be good role models in the family, church and at community level.

He especially urged Christians to remain steadfast in faith and live exemplary lives to please God.

“The church should not despair. Let us remain steadfast in faith and trust in God because He understands all our challenges and will surely heal us,” the Bishop said.
