Nyeri County Woman Representative Rahab Mukami has appealed to Kenyans to embrace women leadership, saying that they are part of the driving engine to spurring economic growth.

Ms Mukami, on Tuesday, noted that women in the country have been politically awakened and should be supported to assist President William Ruto in transforming the economy.

The lawmaker was speaking at her Nyeri town office where she disbursed education bursary to deserving learners drawn from the county.

Ms Mukami defended the embattled Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza who was recently impeached by the Senate.

“Women are the best leaders. I don’t understand why people are very negative about women leadership. For instance, Governor Kawira Mwangaza was elected on an independent ticket and has demonstrated the strength of a woman in political leadership,” Ms Mukami said.

The MP lauded President William Ruto for appointing women to key leadership positions in his administration.

“Counties which are being led by women governors have experienced tremendous growth. Men should understand that our role as women is not only to cook in the kitchen. We are educated and can as well contribute to the growth of this country,” she said.

“We thank the Kenya Kwanza administration, led by President William Ruto, for embracing women in top leadership positions in our country. This is a true testament that we can participate in transforming this nation,” she added.

She disbursed education bursary worth Sh4.5 million to over 500 learners in Nyeri County and also issued sanitary towels to female learners.

Ms Mukami said that the majority of beneficiaries of the bursary are learners from special schools.

“Most of the beneficiaries here are from special schools. I have been sponsoring education for about 70,000 learners in Nyeri County. My office is open to all needy learners. I am appealing to the National Government Administration Officers (Ngao) and the religious leaders to assist me in identifying families that need help,” the MP said.

“I don’t want any deserving learner to be left behind. That is why I fully support the new university funding model by the government,” she added.
