Faith Kipyegon, the three-time Olympic 1500m champion, won her first 10km road race in Monaco in 29 minutes 47 seconds.
World record-holder at 1500 metres and three-time Olympic champion over the distance, Faith Kipyegon, delivered a commanding performance in her first-ever 10 kilometres race, winning in 29 minutes and 47 seconds on the roads of Monaco on Sunday, February 15, 2026.
Stepping up significantly in distance from her signature middle-distance events (1500m, one mile and 5km), Kipyegon demonstrated both tactical composure and endurance strength.
The Kenyan superstar surged clear in the latter stages of the race, separating herself from a competitive international field to secure victory in decisive fashion.
Her finishing time of 29:47 marks an impressive debut at the distance and underlines her range as one of the most accomplished runners of her generation.
Her 29:47 time is now the 14th fastest in 10km in the world. Kenya's Agnes Ngetich holds the world record of 28:46, meaning Kipyegon is just one minute shy off her compatriot who is vastly experienced on the roads.
Kipyegon, who revealed two years ago that she has ambitions to run marathon, announced on February 14 that she would make her 10km debut in Monaco and she delivered a statement win.
The Monaco 10km has become a key fixture on the international road racing calendar, attracting elite athletes seeking fast times on its flat coastal course. Conditions were reported to be favourable, contributing to strong overall performances across the field.
Kipyegon’s transition to the 10km distance has been closely watched, given her dominance on the track at 1500 meters. Her Monaco victory adds another milestone to a career that already, includes multiple Olympic gold medals and world records, further cementing her status among the sport’s most versatile and accomplished athletes.
