The ambassador appointed Stefan Wentzel as the honorary consul for the Coast region.

The Federal Government of Germany has inaugurated an honorary consulate in Diani, enhancing support for its citizens across the coastal region of Kenya.

The consulate, located in the bustling tourism hub recently recognized as Africa’s leading travel destination by the World Travel Awards, aims to provide essential services to both residents and tourists.

During the opening ceremony at Johari Hotel, Germany Ambassador to Kenya Sebastian Groth emphasized the importance of the new consulate to its citizens.

“This office will provide vital support for German residents and tourists facing challenges in Kenya. Germany and Kenya share a long tradition of close bilateral relations, and we are eager to strengthen our cooperation in areas such as climate action, clean energy, and education,” Groth stated.

The ambassador appointed Stefan Wentzel as the honorary consul for the Coast region.

Wentzel has lived in Kenya for over 15 years and is known for his philanthropic efforts.

His responsibilities will include assisting German nationals in various matters, from repatriating deceased citizens to helping those who have lost their passports.

“I am honoured to take on this role and to support our community here in Kenya. I look forward to providing assistance and strengthening the ties between our two(2) nations,” Wentzel said.

The opening ceremony was attended by notable local officials including Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Chibule, and representatives from Mombasa and Kwale counties.

The presence of these officials underscores the significance of the consulate in promoting collaboration between German nationals and the local communities.

Ambassador Groth highlighted the consulate's strategic importance, stating, that they chose to establish the office in response to the growing number of German tourists and residents in the region.

"It reflects our commitment to their well-being while they are here," he said.

The new consulate also aims to bolster business relations between Kenya and Germany, particularly in Kwale County, where initiatives are focused on educational empowerment for locals from underprivileged backgrounds.

“Our efforts are directed toward sustainable development that benefits both our communities,” Groth added.
