KCB hunt crucial win over Young Spikers in KVF League

KCB currently sit sixth with four points, having registered one win and two losses in the first leg of KVF.

Former champions KCB will face Young Spikers in the second leg of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Women’s League Wednesday afternoon at the Moi International Sports Centre Indoor Arena.

The Bankers, coached by Japheth Munala, are targeting maximum points as they look to climb the standings. KCB currently sit sixth with four points, having registered one win and two losses in the first leg.

Ahead of the fixture, Munala acknowledged the challenge, but expressed confidence in his squad’s mindset and ambitions. He emphasized the team’s focus on taking one game at a time while steadily building toward their ultimate goal of reclaiming the league title. According to Munala, maintaining the right mentality will be crucial as they navigate a competitive second leg.

After the Young Spikers clash, KCB will turn their attention to a high-stakes encounter against DCI on March 1. The two sides have developed a fierce rivalry this season, having already met twice in different competitions. KCB narrowly lost 3-2 to DCI in the semi-finals of the Kipchumba Karori Tournament, but later responded in dramatic fashion, overturning a two-set deficit to secure a 3-2 victory in the Kenya Cup.

Munala described DCI as a formidable and consistent side, pointing to their second-place finish last season and strong performances this year. However, he maintained that KCB are well prepared and determined to prove their recent win over DCI was no fluke.

The Bankers head into the second leg with a fully fit squad, bolstered by experience and youthful talent. Munala will rely on seasoned players such as Mercy Moim, Juliana Namutira, Esther Mutinda, and Belinda Barasa to provide leadership and composure in key moments. At the same time, rising stars Fridah Boke and Marlene Terry are expected to inject energy and dynamism as KCB push to reassert themselves as serious title contenders.
