KCB RFC face Black Pirates in Enterprise Cup quarter-final clash in Uganda

Enterprise Cup: KCB Rugby, fresh from a 57-17 Kenya Cup win, meet formidable Black Pirates at Muteesa II Stadium, while Kabras Sugar face Heathens in a blockbuster day of quarterfinal action.

Five-time Enterprise Cup champions KCB Rugby will collide with Uganda’s Black Pirates in a highly anticipated quarter-final on Saturday at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, kicking off at 4pm.

Also in Uganda, defending champions Kabras Sugar of Kenya tackle Heathens at 2pm.

KCB head into their clash with Pirates in strong form, fresh from a commanding 57-17 win over Daystar Falcons in the Kenya Cup. The bankers will be looking to carry that momentum into the knockout stage as they chase another title. However, they remain cautious about the challenge ahead. Assistant coach Jacob Ojee acknowledged Pirates’ quality, especially on home soil, emphasizing that knockout rugby presents a different level of intensity.

“We are coming off a strong performance against Daystar, and that gives us confidence, but knockout rugby is a different challenge. Pirates are a quality side, especially at home, and we are not underestimating the threat they pose. We have prepared well, and the boys understand what is at stake,” said Ojee.

KCB will, however, be without several key figures. Head coach Andrew Amonde, along with players Vincent Onyala, George Ooro, Samuel Asati, Floyd Wabwire, and Festus Shiasi, are away on national duty at the HSBC SVNS2 tournaments in Montevideo, Uruguay, and Sao Paulo, Brazil. In their absence, responsibility will fall on players such as Miheso Eric, Andy Cole Omolo, Tyson Maina, Emmanuel Silungi, Brian Wahinya, Elvis Olukusi, and Jenkins Kipruto to step up.

In Nakuru, record champions Uganda’s Kobs will take on Nondescripts at the ASK Showground in another Enterprise Cup fixture. The match will be followed by a clash between Menengai Oilers and Uganda’s Buffaloes, ensuring a full day of competitive action.

Kobs assistant coach Keith Sseruyange expressed confidence ahead of their encounter with Nondescripts, despite the challenge of playing away from home.

“It is always tough playing away from home, but the boys are ready for the challenge. We respect Nondescripts, but we are focused on our structures and execution. If we stay disciplined and take our chances, we believe we can get a positive result,” said Sseruyange.

With Kabras Sugar facing Heathens, KCB battling Black Pirates, Kobs meeting Nondescripts, and Menengai Oilers taking on Buffaloes, the quarterfinal stage promises high-stakes action across multiple venues, as teams from both Kenya and Uganda aim to keep their Enterprise Cup ambitions alive.
