Parliamentary leaders have called on staff to carry the spirit of teamwork and unity demonstrated during the inaugural Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) Sports Day into their daily work.

Chief Guest and PSC Staff Welfare Committee Chairperson Rachel Ameso, Senate Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye, and National Assembly Clerk Samuel Njoroge all underscored that the same collaboration seen on the field should define Parliament’s workplace culture.

Ameso praised the PSC for prioritising staff welfare and urged that the sports event be held more frequently to promote morale and cohesion.

“The welfare of parliamentary staff is important. I’m suggesting that we have at least two such gatherings every year,” she said during the closing ceremony at Ulinzi Sports Complex, Lang’ata.

Nyegenye said the event had shown how teamwork, humility, and persistence contribute to success, values that should guide staff performance in their official duties.

“From these sports, we learn that teamwork, humility, and persistence are key to success,” he observed.

Njoroge echoed the sentiment, noting that sports fostered stronger relationships across departments.

“Through sports, we build stronger bonds and a shared sense of purpose,” he said.

The two-day event brought together staff from the National Assembly, Senate, Parliamentary Joint Services (PJS), and the PSC, grouped into four colour-coded teams--Red, Black, White, and Gold.

They competed in outdoor sports such as athletics, football, volleyball, basketball, netball, swimming, and tug of war, alongside indoor contests including chess, scrabble, pool, badminton, table tennis, and darts.

Team Black emerged the overall winner after securing the highest number of gold medals.

It comprised staff from the Office of the Clerk of the Senate, Security and Safety, Finance and Accounting, Engineering and Maintenance, and the Parliamentary Budget Office, led by Nyegenye.

Team Red, led by Njoroge, finished second, followed by Team White in third place.

Team Gold, headed by PJS Director-General Clement Nyandiere, was recognised as the most disciplined team.

Held under the theme “One Team, One Goal: Energizing Parliament through Sports,” the PSC Sports Day underscored Parliament’s growing investment in staff welfare, health, and unity.
