Kipchoge won his first Olympic gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016.
Two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge has confirmed that the NB42K Porto Alegre Marathon in Brazil will serve as the South American chapter of Eliud’s Running World, a global series of seven marathons across all continents designed to inspire communities and unite the world through running.
The 2026 NB42K Porto Alegre takes place on July 12, 2026.
For Kipchoge, racing in Brazil is a meaningful return. The country holds special place in his career as the place where he won his first Olympic gold medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016. Competing in Porto Alegre offers him the chance to reconnect with one of the world’s most passionate running communities while continuing his mission to inspire people through running.
“Running is a universal language that speaks to hope, discipline, and unity,” said Kipchoge on March 11, 2026. “I am very excited to come to Brazil and experience the passion of the people of Porto Alegre. Every continent has its own spirit, and I look forward to sharing this journey with South America while inspiring people to believe that no human is limited.”
The NB42K Porto Alegre Marathon has developed a strong reputation across South America thanks to its scenic course and enthusiastic crowds. Each year it attracts elite athletes and thousands of runners, combining high-level competition with a vibrant street celebration in one of Brazil’s most dynamic cities. Kipchoge’s participation marks a historic moment for the event, elevating its global profile and reinforcing its international ambitions.
Cláudio Soirefmann, CEO of Run Sports, said: “Bringing Eliud Kipchoge to NB42K Porto Alegre is a historic milestone for our race and for Brazilian running. After everything our community has faced, this moment carries even deeper meaning. We are honoured to be part of Eliud’s Running World and proud to welcome the world to Porto Alegre.”
Over the next two years, Kipchoge will run a marathon on all seven continents, spending time at each destination meeting local communities, taking part in cultural activations, and running alongside fans.
The tour will also include the Cape Town Marathon in South Africa on May 24, 2026, representing the African chapter of the project.
Funds raised throughout the series will support the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation, which focuses on environmental conservation and education, an especially meaningful mission following the devastating floods that affected Porto Alegre in 2024. The final 2026 tour destination will be announced on March 13.
