Nairobi among regions to experience five days of rainfall - MET

The Kenya Meteorological Department (MET) has issued a weather advisory alerting residents in various parts of the country to expect periodic rainfall from October 22 to October 26, 2024.
In its weekly forecast, the department cautioned residents of the Highlands East, areas west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley to anticipate moderate to heavy rainfall during this period.
Residents of counties in the Highlands East, such as Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi, have been advised to prepare for moderate rainfall over the next five(5) days.
According to the Kenya MET, the rains in these areas are expected to begin in the morning, continuing until midday, with partly cloudy conditions expected during the night.
In counties such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, and Nakuru, heavier rainfall is predicted, mainly starting in the afternoon and extending into the evening. The department also indicated that thunderstorms may accompany the rains in these regions.
Other counties, including Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot, are also expected to experience a similar weather pattern during this period.
In contrast, much of the rest of the country is forecast to experience dry and sunny conditions throughout the week. Counties such as Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and the inland parts of Tana River are predicted to remain sunny for the next five days.
The Kenya MET department has also issued a temperature advisory, particularly warning residents in counties like Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi of cold nights ahead.
Night temperatures in these areas are expected to drop as low as 10°C over the first three(3) days before rising to around 11°C to 12°C for the remainder of the forecast period.
Meanwhile, residents in regions such as Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, and Kakamega should prepare for high daytime temperatures reaching up to 31°C.
Other counties expecting hot conditions include Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, Kwale, Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta.
