AMREF Flying Doctors has resumed operations with its “Wings of Courage” maiden flight, days after the Mwihoko crash that claimed six(6) lives.

The flight, from Nairobi to Belgium, carried a critically injured patient from Zanzibar.

0The patient’s family urgently sought treatment abroad and turned to AMREF Flying Doctors for evacuation.

Speaking at a press briefing, CEO Steve Gitau said the mission was more than a routine operation.

“This flight is more than a mission--it is a message. We fly not just with wings, but with purpose,” Mr Gitau said.

The August 7, 2025, accident in Kiambu County killed four(4) crew members--Captain Muthuka Munuve, Captain Brian Kimani Miaro, Dr Charles Mugo Njoroge, and Nurse Jane Rispah Aluoch Omusula--along with two(2) Mwihoko residents.

Amref said it is providing bereaved families with counselling, logistical help, and regular updates.

It is also engaging the Mwihoko community with psychosocial support and relief assistance.

AMREF Flying Doctors is working with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and other agencies to investigate the crash.

The company said it remains committed to high safety standards and quality aeromedical care.

The “Wings of Courage” mission was described as both a tribute to the victims and a demonstration of resilience in continuing life-saving operations.
