Three killed in a road accident along Mombasa Road

Three people died instantly and 17 others were seriously injured in a head-on collision between a matatu and a truck near Kyumbi junction on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway on Sunday morning.
The crash occurred at Mua Bridge, about three kilometres from Kyumbi junction, when a truck travelling in the wrong direction collided with an oncoming 46-seater matatu operated by KAM Travellers Sacco.
Addressing the media, Athi River OCPD Anderson Mbai said the matatu driver and two passengers seated in the cabin were killed on the spot.
The truck driver fled the scene and remains at large.
“17 passengers of various ages sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital for treatment. The wreckage of both vehicles has been towed to Kyumbi Police Station for inspection,” the police boss said.
He urged motorists to obey traffic regulations, warning that many fatal accidents could be prevented through responsible road use.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination.
