Prominent Uasin Gishu farmer's son dies in farm accident

A prominent Uasin Gishu County farmer, George Kili lost his son following a tragic accident at the family's expansive farm in Eldoret.
Rodney Kili,31, met his tragic death following a fatal accident on their family farm.
According to a police report, Rodney was crushed by a planter while calibrating the machine.
While confirming the incident, Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi said investigation has been launched into the incident.
"Initial reports indicate that the deceased was calibrating a planter in motion when he accidentally slipped and fell under the machine, which fatally injured him," Mr Mwanthi said in a statement.
Rodney succumbed to the injuries later while he was being rushed to hospital.
His body was moved to a morgue in Eldoret pending a postmortem examination.
Rodney who has been described by family and friends as a young and ambitious farmer is prided for being in the forefront in implementing innovative farming techniques at the family’s Komool Farm and Buffalo Millers.
His efforts were geared towards maximising production, making him a key player in advancing the family’s large-scale maize and wheat farming business, which spans over 5,000 mechanised acres in the vast Rift Valley.
Rodney’s contributions to modern farming earned him a place at the prestigious Global Farmer Roundtable in 2018, an achievement he dedicated to his father for his unwavering support.
His former classmates at St Joseph’s High School in Kitale fondly remember him for his passion for rugby.
The investigation into the tragic accident continues as the family grapples with the devastating loss.
His father is a prominent large-scale farmer in Eldoret and has even started his own milling plant, Buffalo Millers at Kimumu area at the outskirts of Eldoret City.
