Athlete Faith Kipyegon to be awarded an Honorary Doctorate by University of Eldoret

All is set for World Record Holder in 1,500 metres and mile Faith Kipyegon to be feted by the University of Eldoret (UoE) for her exploits on the track.

Kipyegon has been nominated by the University of Eldoret for the award of Honorary Doctorate in Education.

She will be awarded during the University's 13th Graduation Ceremony slated for November 21, 2024, in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

The talented athlete has been recognised by the University for her outstanding season on the track, including winning three(3) World Records.

She won the third 1,500 metres Olympic gold and an Olympic silver medal in 10,000 metres.

In a statement, the university described Kipyegon as an accomplished middle- and long-distance runner and the reigning 1,500 metres and mile World Record Holder.

"Notable among her achievements was becoming the first athlete to be a three-time Olympic champion as she won three(3) consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 1,500 metres women’s race," said the UoE in their statement.

During the 2023 season, Kipyegon set World Records in the 1,500 metres and the mile within 49 days

The university's announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor Prof Thomas Kimeli Cheruiyot.

Kipyegon has also been nominated to defend her World Track Athlete of the Year Award title scheduled for December 1, 2024, in Monaco.
