Faith Kipyegon awarded an Honorary Degree in Education by UoE

Prof Thomas Kimeli Cheruiyot said that like any other scholar, Faith Kipyegon had supported the growth of education in Kenya as she runs a foundation.

Double World 1,500 metres record holder Faith Kipyegon was finally feted with an Honorary Degree in Education during the 13th Graduation ceremony at the University of Eldoret for her exploits on the track.

The University honoured Kipyegon for her vision and focus in athletics and education.

University Eldoret University (UoE) Vice-Chancellor Prof Thomas Kimeli Cheruiyot said that like any other scholar, Kipyegon had supported the growth of Education in Kenya as she runs a foundation.

"Faith Kipyegon runs a foundation under the sponsorship of Nike. The foundation supports girls and young mothers who are underprivileged to go back to school. Her rallying call has been ‘to empower a woman is to empower humanity’," said Prof Cheruiyot.

"Faith portrays a life of unparalleled determination, committed to excellence and dedication to realisation of her dreams. For this she deserves to be conferred with an Honorary degree in education from this University," he added.

The University recognized the star athlete for her outstanding season in the track including winning three(3) world records.

She won the third 1500m Olympic gold and an Olympic silver medal in 10,000m.

The university described Kipyegon as an accomplished middle and long distance runner and the reigning 1,500 metres champion and Mile World Record holder.

"Notable among her achievements was becoming the first athlete to be a three-time Olympic champion as she won three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 1500 meters women’s race," said the University in their statement.

During the 2023 season Faith set World Records in the 1,500 meters and the Mile within 49 days.

Kipyegon has also been nominated to defend her World Track Athlete of the Year award title scheduled for December 1, 2024 in Monaco.
