Bobi Wine: ‘Drunk soldiers invaded our house, held my wife at gunpoint’

Bobi Wine claims drunk soldiers invaded his house, held his wife at gunpoint, and caused widespread damage.

Uganda's main opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, on Saturday shared photos of destruction caused in his house by people he claimed were soldiers who were baying for his blood.

Chief of Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) happens to be the so of his main rival, incumbent President Yoweri Museveni.

"Hundreds of soldiers descended on our home in Magere last night. Most were dressed in SFC uniforms while others were in regular UPDF uniforms and others in plain clothes," Bobi Wine posted on the social media platform X.

He said many of them were drunk and that they came with ladders, ready to climb upstairs. In the photos shared, there is a wave of destruction, said to have been caused by the soldiers.

"They broke our doors and forced themselves into our house. Using hammers, they hit walls, window glasses, and doors. They put my wife at gunpoint, asking her to reveal my whereabouts," he added.

In the invasion, the victims said money was stolen, without disclosing the exact amount, and that numerous valuable documents and all electronic gadgets were carted away.

"They took phones, laptops, chargers, our internet system, our CCTV system, speakers, and any electronic gadget they could lay their criminal hands on," he added.

No part of his house was spared, including the ceiling.

Bobi Wine said their tormentors grabbed his wife's phone, forced her to sit down, and ordered her to remove her password, but she refused.

They spewed insults at her as they put her through assault, forcefully removed her blouse and took pictures, totally against any woman's dignity.

"Speaking Runyakore, they asked why she would get married to a Muganda, and why we would dare challenge Museveni," he said.

Their guard--askari--and housemaid were also assaulted as the attackers ordered the askari to show them where the basement is, "where I was hiding."

According to Bobi Wine, who rejected the outcome of the January 15, 2026, presidential polls, the attackers also asked where his children were.

"My wife was rushed to hospital where she remains admitted--dealing with all the physical and psychological trauma," he said.

The musician-cum-politician said despite all that is done to him and his people, "we remain firm in our belief that Uganda will be free."

His lawyer Robert Amsterdam has urged the United Nations and the international community to intervene and save his client whose life is in danger.

This follows a recent X post by Chief of UPDF General Muhoozi Kainerugaba--which was later deleted--in which he threatened that he was searching for Bobi Wine to deal with him.

The post, in which he said he wished the 23rd victim of the crackdown on supporters of NUP to be "Kabobi", sparked outrage in Uganda and globally.
