The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is pursuing ‘crucial leads’ in the investigation of Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, who was attacked on Wednesday morning at Java House–West End Mall in Kisumu.

The Senator sustained injuries and was airlifted to Nairobi for specialized medical care, authorities said.

DCI detectives have conducted a detailed forensic analysis of CCTV footage from the mall and nearby locations, tracing the movements of the attackers.

At this stage, the motive remains unclear, but investigators are following all credible leads to identify and arrest those responsible.

“The DCI is fully committed to ensuring the perpetrators are brought to justice. Members of the public are urged to remain calm and allow the investigation to proceed without interference,” the agency said in a statement.

Leaders condemn attack

Political figures and human rights advocates have condemned the assault.

Mombasa Governor and ODM Deputy Party Leader Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir issued a formal statement condemning what he termed a “senseless and cowardly attack.”

“This reprehensible act is an affront not only to the Senator but to the values of civility and the rule of law that we must all uphold,” Nassir said.

“Violence and thuggery have no place in a modern society… Accountability must be swift and unequivocal.”

He added that ODM stands in solidarity with Senator Osotsi and wished him a quick recovery.

Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, described the attack as “reckless, unwarranted and criminal” and called for swift action against the culprits.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, in a verified X post, said the assault was “dastardly” and urged authorities to ensure that those behind it face justice.

Local officials, including representatives from Kisumu County, warned that such violence undermines public confidence in democratic processes and the rule of law.

DCI said the public will be kept updated as the investigation continues.
