Former Cabinet Secretary and seasoned politician Raphael Tuju has reportedly been missing since Saturday afternoon, according to his family and close associates.
The development comes amid a long‑running commercial and legal dispute that has put the former top government official in the national spotlight.
Mr Tuju was last seen on Saturday and was expected to appear on Ramogi FM that evening, but failed to show up.
Sources say his mobile phone has been switched off since Saturday, and his car was found abandoned on Miotoni Lane in the Karen area of Nairobi.
Son’s account
According to posts circulating on social media, Tuju’s son, Mano Tuju, received a call from the Officer‑in‑Charge at Karen Police Station while he was at church, informing him that his father’s vehicle had been recovered in the neighbourhood.
A missing person report was subsequently filed with police.
Family members say they have not been able to reach the former CS, and are deeply concerned for his safety.
Context: long legal battle
The missing‑person alarm comes against the backdrop of a protracted legal battle involving Tuju and the East African Development Bank (EADB) over multi‑billion‑shilling debts and ownership of prime commercial property in Karen, Nairobi.
In recent weeks, the dispute has drawn intense public and political attention:
- Tuju’s legal team faced confusion when a scheduled court hearing on the matter was not listed, delaying proceedings
- an earlier dramatic early‑morning police operation saw dozens of officers forcefully enter Tuju’s Dari Business Park property, a move the former CS described as intimidation
A High Court recently granted a reprieve, issuing an injunction to halt the takeover of the disputed property pending further court processes.
The circumstances under which Tuju disappeared have raised significant questions among political observers, legal experts, and the public, particularly given his recent high‑profile clashes related to the property dispute.
What authorities say
As of now, police have not released an official public statement regarding Tuju’s disappearance, his whereabouts, or any ongoing search efforts. Attempts to obtain comment from law enforcement are ongoing.
