Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has ordered a swift investigation into an incident of alleged police brutality at Nandi Hills Police Station.
The alleged incident cane to the public attention after CCTV footage circulated widely online showing officers engaging in serious misconduct.
As the footage sparked public outrage, political leaders, human rights defenders and civil society groups condemned the incident, calling for accountability, disciplinary action and respect for human rights.
Several leaders said the clip undermined public trust in the police and reinforced long-standing concerns over the use of excessive force.
In a statement issued on Friday, the National Police Service (NPS) urged members of the public with information that could assist the investigation to report to the nearest police station, call 999, 911 or 112, or submit tips anonymously through #FichuaKwaDCI.
“The Inspector General has personally gained sight of the clip and has ordered a comprehensive and swift investigation into the incident,” said Police Spokesperson Mr Muchiri Nyaga.
The Internal Affairs Unit has been directed to conclude investigations within three days.
The Police Service said the probe will be conducted in collaboration with independent oversight institutions to ensure transparency and accountability.

The NPS said the conduct captured in the footage violates the National Police Service Act, the Code of Conduct for Police Officers, and fundamental principles of human rights and dignity.
“The National Police Service is appalled by what has been depicted and unequivocally condemns such barbaric behaviour which has no place in a civilised society,” Mr Nyaga said.
The Service said any officer found culpable will be dealt with in accordance with the law, adding that the incident does not reflect the values, standards and training of the police.
“Service to the people must at all times remain courteous, respectful and professional. Anything short of this shall be dealt with firmly and swiftly,” the NPS said.
