Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has ordered an immediate inquiry into the security breach that occurred during President William Ruto’s event in Wajir on Thursday.
The incident happened during the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) event in Wajir County, which was attended by President Ruto.
The incident, broadcast live, saw an individual rush toward the presidential dais before being swiftly apprehended by members of the Presidential Security Team.
“The NPS wishes to state unequivocally that at no time was the safety of His Excellency the President, other dignitaries, or members of the public compromised,” the statement read In a statement by National Police Service Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.
He said the suspect was immediately apprehended and the event proceeded without further interruption.
He added that IG Kanja has formed a team to investigate the matter within three days.
“The Inspector General of Police has formed a team to conduct an inquiry into the matter within three days, to identify any procedural gaps that may have contributed to this breach, and to take immediate remedial measures,” the statement said.
The National Police Service reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of national leaders and the public during high-profile events.
