The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has informed passengers that Terminal 1E at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will be temporarily closed from Thursday (tomorrow), to allow for renovations.

In a notice dated October 8, 2024, KAA stated that JKIA’s Terminal 1E will be closed from 7am with all affected departures and arrivals being redirected to Terminal 1A.
“Dear Valued Passengers, KAA would like to inform you that Terminal IE at JKIA will be temporarily closed starting Thursday, October 10. 2024, at 7am to facilitate essential rehabilitation works,” said KAA in the statement.
"During this period, all affected airlines will be handled through Terminal 1A. This decision has been taken to ensure the safety of our staff and passengers during the refurbishment process.”
Additionally, KAA apologised for any inconvenience the move may cause and expressed appreciation for passengers' cooperation during the period.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time,” said KAA.
“Thank you for your continued support as we work to enhance our facilities for a better travel experience.”
JKIA has six(6) terminals dedicated to handling international passenger arrivals and departures.
Each terminal has dedicated airlines landing and taking off.
Terminal 1E handles at least 10 major international airlines and also houses the airport's busy immigration and customs checkpoints.
Terminal 1A, to which the flights were diverted, is the airport's largest and newest terminal, having opened in August 2023 with a capacity to handle up to 2.5 million passengers.
