Kalonzo declares: '2027 will be a revolutionary election'
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has declared that the 2027 General Election will be “revolutionary”.
He is therefore urging young Kenyans to register as voters and “decide at the ballot.”
Speaking during an interview on Sunday Live Citizen TV with Jeff Koinange, the former Vice President and twice running mate confirmed he will run for president, ending months of speculation.
“To avoid any ambiguity… yes, I will be on the ballot,” he said.
‘This is revolution time’
Mr Musyoka framed the next election as a defining moment for the country, linking it to recent youth-led protests and political tensions.
“This is not a normal election. It is going to be a revolutionary election,” he said.
He called for mass voter registration, particularly among young people, saying they must now “conclude the revolution” through the ballot.
The Wiper leader criticised President William Ruto over what he described as rising political intolerance and inflammatory rhetoric.
He questioned remarks attributed to the President on the use of force during protests, warning that such statements undermine Kenya’s constitutional democracy.
“We are a constitutional democracy, not a monarchy,” he said.
Mr Musyoka also accused the government of failing to uphold national values and integrity standards under the Constitution.
IEBC, elections and ‘stolen vote’ fears
He raised concerns over the credibility of the next election, warning that Kenyans “cannot afford another stolen election.”
Mr Musyoka criticised early discussions around election technology procurement, cautioning against what he termed “political procurement” of electoral systems.
“We are watching very closely… this country cannot be messed up again,” he said.
He urged the electoral commission to ensure a transparent process, including proper voter register management and independent oversight.
Coalition politics taking shape
Mr Musyoka revealed he is working on forming a broad opposition coalition, hinting at possible restructuring of existing political alliances.
He said the coalition would provide a “formidable vehicle” to challenge President Ruto in 2027.
“You cannot win alone… this is about bringing Kenyans together,” he said.
