MARYLAND, US

In a townhall charged with emotion and candour, former Vice President and presidential hopeful, Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, told Kenyans living and working in the United States that he will be on the ballot in 2027.

That, his leadership is measured by conscience, not just policy.

“I have never presided over the killing of our children. I have never sanctioned abductions. I have never stood before cameras to brand young Kenyans as criminals or terrorists for exercising rights guaranteed by the Constitution,” Mr Kalonzo said, his voice echoing a deep moral conviction.

“The duty of leadership is to protect life, to respect the voice of citizens, and to lead with restraint and humanity.”

The Silver Spring conversation, held in a relaxed setting without formalities, turned into a candid exchange about Kenya’s future.

He told the diaspora that his decision to run is anchored in service, experience, and a lifelong commitment to the people of Kenya.

“My public record speaks for itself,” he insisted.

Mr Kalonzo did not shy away from addressing the frustrations of the diaspora, who have often felt sidelined during past elections.

“You will not be reduced to election-season props or symbolic appointments. You will have a seat at the table, not as guests, but as architects of our national transformation,” he said, prompting nods and applause from the crowd.

The discussion also touched on the plight of Kenya’s youth and the importance of ethical leadership.

“Leadership is not only measured by policies. It is measured by conscience. How a government treats its people, especially the young, defines the future of our nation,” he added.

Accompanying Mr Kalonzo were Deputy Minority Leader Robert Mbui and Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo.

The duo emphasized the importance of engaging Kenyans abroad in shaping the country’s destiny.

The audience, composed mostly of young professionals and students, raised pointed questions about inclusion, governance, and the cost of living back home.

Mr Kalonzo addressed each with a mix of realism and optimism.

“The conversation in Silver Spring was thoughtful and deeply encouraging. Our diaspora remains attentive, informed, and invested in the future of our nation. Together, we look ahead to a Kenya that restores dignity in leadership, protects its citizens, and builds a future worthy of the sacrifices of its people,” he said.
