Kehancha residents urge gov't to ease growing traffic congestion
Residents of Kehancha in Kuria West, Migori County, have urged the government to explore alternative transport solutions to ease the growing traffic congestion in the area.
They say the increasing number of vehicles has overwhelmed the main highway, leading to severe traffic bottlenecks and a rise in road accidents.
Stakeholders also noted that the tarmac laid several years ago along the Ntimaru–Kehancha–Isebania road has weakened and can no longer withstand the weight of heavy trucks operating in the region, particularly those plying the route from Kehancha to Ang’ata Sugar Mills.
The situation has accelerated the deterioration of the road surface, leaving behind dangerous potholes that pose a major risk to motorists and other road users, especially during the rainy season.
Residents are now calling on the relevant ministry to develop a comprehensive strategy to address the traffic gridlock, regulate the flow of vehicles and motorcycles, and improve road infrastructure in the affected areas, including expansion of the existing road.
