Kindiki pours cold water on Gachagua's DCP party

Prof Kindiki said recent by-election victories demonstrated UDA’s dominance and warned the opposition to prepare for defeat in 2027.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) as politically insignificant, declaring it no match for the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking during a public sensitisation forum at Gakoromone Market in Meru Town, Kindiki said recent by-election victories demonstrated UDA’s dominance and warned the opposition to prepare for defeat in 2027.

He cited UDA’s win in Mbeere North, where Leo Wamuthende was elected, and the party’s performance in the Isiolo South by-election as evidence of growing support.

“At Mbeere North you tried to demonstrate your strength and popularity, but we prevailed. The same happened in Isiolo South. You have not seen anything yet. UDA remains the most popular party and will secure the majority of seats, including the presidency,” Kindiki said.

Four days ago, UDA wons four by-elections as Mohamed Tubi bagged Isiolo South MP seat with 7,352 votes,  Duncan Muratia won with 7,853, the Evurore ward seat, Peterson Njeru won Muminji Ward with 3,207 and Elphas Shalakha with 3,317 at West Kabras ward.

The Deputy President criticised opposition leaders, accusing them of lacking a development agenda and relying on rhetoric instead of tangible programmes. He said Kenyans would not back leaders who engage in insults and political hostility.

“There is a clear distinction between leaders who merely talk and those focused on development. We cannot abandon a government that is delivering projects for wananchi,” he said.

Kindiki also cautioned politicians against incitement and personal attacks, urging respect among leaders. He maintained that the Meru community values decorum in leadership and does not condone abusive politics.

During the event, Kindiki outlined ongoing national government projects in Meru County under President William Ruto’s administration.

He announced that Sh1 billion has been released for the construction of an ultra-modern fresh produce market at Gakoromone. Other flagship projects include the Sh1 billion upgrade of Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, the Sh3.7 billion Meru Town bypass roads, and the completed Sh900 million Kinoru Stadium with a 10,000-seat capacity.

The Deputy President further said contractors have resumed stalled road projects after settlement of pending bills.

He noted that road works valued at Sh39 billion are ongoing across the county’s nine constituencies.

Additionally, 17 fresh produce markets are under construction at a cost of Sh2 billion, while 26,000 households, businesses and public institutions are being connected to electricity under a Sh2.3 billion programme.

Kindiki was accompanied by Meru Governor Isaac Mutuma, Deputy Governor Linda Kiome, Woman Representative Elizabeth Kailemia, and Members of Parliament including Rahim Dawood, Mpuru Aburi, Dan Kiili, and nominated MP Dorothy Muthoni.

The Governor and MPs drummed up support for re-election of President Ruto and his Deputy Kithure Kindiki.

Dawood said the construction of the Gakoromone market and Gakoromone Sewerage relocation will be a game changer.

He said it will also create just bs for area residents.

The forum was convened to brief residents on the commencement of the Gakoromone market project and provide updates on other government initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods in the region.
