A boda boda rider from Katito in Kisumu County has become the second millionaire in Coca-Cola’s ongoing Funua Flava Under the Crown promotion.

Mr Jacob Ochieng Liech,43, from Konyuro village, was awarded Sh1 million in a colourful ceremony held at Katito Market on Thursday last week, drawing cheers from friends, fellow riders, and shoppers.

For years, Mr Ochieng had relied on hired motorcycles, surrendering a significant share of his daily earnings to owners. The father of five said the win would transform his livelihood.

“I will use this cash to buy my own motorcycle so that I can make good money. Before, I had to part with at least Sh300 daily to the owner of the bike, which left me with very little,” he said.

He added that part of the prize would be invested in his wife’s traditional mat-making business.

Mr Ochieng said his winning journey began when a friend encouraged him to try his luck in the promotion. His first reward was 50MB of data, but he persisted until he received a call confirming his grand prize.

“At first, I didn’t believe it. I even disconnected the call. But after several follow-ups, I realised it was true,” he recalled.

The Funua Flava Under the Crown promotion, launched on August 15, 2025, by Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA) in Kenya, will run until November 15, 2025.

Consumers stand a chance to win instant airtime, data bundles, cash prizes, and a weekly Sh1 million reward.

To participate, consumers buy a 300ml glass bottle of Coca-Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Stoney, Krest, or Schweppes, check under the yellow cap for a unique code, and SMS it to 40111.

Director of Frontline Marketing for Coca-Cola East and Central Africa Franchise, Juliana Kituma said the promotion was designed to create memorable experiences.

“With this promotion, we have made it easy for people to win real prizes in real time. Airtime is delivered instantly, and cash prizes are securely transferred to mobile wallets, making the process seamless,” she said.

Alfred Mabu, CCBA Kenya’s Revenue Growth and Trade Marketing Director, added that the campaign reflects the company’s commitment to rewarding loyal consumers and giving back in meaningful ways.
