Two Nyeri residents win Sh1m each in Coca-Cola Promotion

A construction worker and a small businesswoman from Nyeri County have become the latest winners of the weekly grand prize in Coca-Cola’s Funua Flava Pata Mita under-the-crown promotion.

George Wachira Miano and Mary Ngatha Wangondu, who were named the 10^th and 11^th winners, received their cheques on Wednesday at Mediawash Distributors in Karatina town.

The promotion now has only one more Sh1 million weekly winner to be announced before it concludes later this week.

Mr Wachira said he first learned about the promotion through social media videos and radio advertisements, but initially dismissed it.

His belief grew, however, after a small, but convincing win.

“One evening I was walking home from work, feeling completely worn out. I decided to buy a 200ml Coca-Cola from a vendor. I sent the code under the crown to 40111 and won 50MB of data. That small win made me believe the promotion was genuine,” he said.

He plans to use his winnings to start a family business and buy his wife a washing machine.

Ngatha, a small-scale trader, said she had seen the promotion several times on TikTok and TV before deciding to try her luck.

“I bought my favourite Fanta Blackcurrant and sent the code several times,” she said.

“At first, I only won 50MB of data. When a Coca-Cola representative called to say I had won Sh1 million, I could not believe her. I only accepted it after she explained everything clearly.”

Ngatha plans to use the money to complete payment for a plot she has been buying in instalments and later develop it into a business.

According to Ampher Apidi, Experiential Marketing Manager at Coca-Cola Beverages Kenya, the Funua Flava Pata Mita promotion has continued to attract enthusiastic participation nationwide.

“So far, 11 millionaires have been crowned from counties including Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Meru, Kisumu, Nyeri, Migori, Mombasa and Nairobi,” he said, adding that thousands of consumers have also won cash prizes worth Sh100,000, Sh10,000 and daily data bundles.

Previous weekly winners include Paul Onyango and Sharon Ndunge from Nairobi; Linet Moraa Mugire from Eldoret; Miriam Wakio Kidungwa from Mombasa; and Emmanuel Kerario Gikumi, a 21-year-old student from Migori.

To participate, consumers buy a 300ml glass bottle of Coca-Cola, Fanta, Sprite, Stoney, Krest or Schweppes and send the code under the yellow crown cap via SMS to 40111.
