Tuju alongside his driver are missing.
NAIROBI Kenya — The disappearance of former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju has taken a dramatic turn after detectives were blocked from accessing his Karen residence, even as fresh details confirm both he and his driver remain missing.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said Tuju was reported missing by his family on Sunday, after his vehicle was found abandoned along Miotoni Lane in Karen with its hazard lights still on.
It has now been confirmed that Tuju’s driver, Steve Mwanga, is also missing, widening the scope of the investigation.
Lawyers speak
Lawyer Paul Nyamodi, speaking on behalf of the family, said the two disappeared on Saturday evening under unclear circumstances.
“Tuju and his driver disappeared on Saturday evening, with their vehicle later discovered abandoned in Karen,” Nyamodi said.
Senior Counsel PLO Lumumba was among lawyers who gathered in Karen, calling for a swift and transparent investigation into the matter.
Political storm builds
The case has now taken a political turn, with Kalonzo Musyoka alleging that the two were forcibly abducted.
“Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju and his driver were forcibly abducted… This is unlawful, unconstitutional, and a direct affront to the dignity of every Kenyan citizen,” Kalonzo said.
He demanded that the two be “produced alive and returned to their families, unharmed.”
Phone off, probe intensifies
Police say efforts to reach Tuju have so far failed, with his mobile phone switched off. A specialised team is now working across agencies to trace his whereabouts.
Access row raises questions
In a development likely to complicate investigations, the DCI revealed that officers attempting to visit Tuju’s residence on Mwitu Drive were denied entry by the family.
Authorities have urged full cooperation, saying access to key locations is critical to resolving the case.
The disappearance comes amid Tuju’s high-stakes legal battle over his Karen property, which has drawn public attention and heightened concerns over his safety in recent days.
Public appeal
Police are urging anyone who may have seen Tuju, his vehicle, or any suspicious activity in the Karen area to come forward.
Investigations remain ongoing.
