Serena Hotels Africa bags seven awards at the Eco Warrior Awards 2024

The hotel chain took home awards in key categories, solidifying their leadership in responsible tourism practices.

Serena Hotels Africa made a resounding statement at the 17th Annual Eco Warrior Awards on October 17, 2024, in Nairobi, winning seven(7) prestigious awards for their sustainability efforts.

The awards, which were presented by Tourism Principal Secretary John Ololtua at a gala dinner held at the Emara Ole Sereni Hotel, highlighted Serena Hotels' dedication to advancing sustainable tourism.

The event, which centred around the theme “Realising Sustainable Development Goals through Sustainable Tourism,” celebrated both direct and indirect stakeholders in tourism who have made significant strides in promoting sustainability.

Serena Hotels, represented by Africa CEO Ashish Sharma, Director of the Office of the Global Head Shenin Virji, and Regional Marketing Director Maureen Okore, took home awards in key categories, solidifying their leadership in responsible tourism practices.

Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge claimed first place in the Leading Accommodation in Responsible Business Practices category, while Amboseli Serena and Lake Elmenteita Serena took second and third place, respectively.

Serena Beach Resort & Spa earned first place for Leading Accommodation in Conservation of Aquatic Life, and both Amboseli Serena and Mara Serena were recognized in the Leading Accommodation in Promoting Viable Tourism Practices category, taking second and third place. Mara Serena was also awarded second place for Leading Accommodation in Climate Action.

These accolades underscore Serena Hotels' commitment to sustainability across the ecosystems in which they operate. The group has long prioritised responsible tourism, working to integrate environmental, social, and economic sustainability into their business model.

The Eco Warrior Awards, championed by Ecotourism Kenya, recognize innovation and leadership in tourism that balances economic, environmental, and sociocultural considerations. 

This year’s theme, “Rethinking Tourism: Celebrating Changemakers,” focused on businesses and individuals who have made lasting positive impacts through sustainable practices.

By winning seven awards, Serena Hotels has further cemented its role as a changemaker in the hospitality and tourism industry, continuously pushing forward the sustainability agenda for the betterment of the planet.
