Suspects in the murder of MP Ong'ondo linked to criminal gang 'Mjahidin'

At least four(4) suspects in the murder of Kasipul MP Charles Ong'ondo Were have been arrested, Police said on Sunday.
The National Police Service (NPS) in a statement said some of the suspects arrested are members of organised criminal gangs, such as “Mjahidin”, which has been linked to armed robberies in the Eastlands area of Nairobi.
The four(4) suspects had been positively placed at the crime scene. Investigators also recovered crucial evidence linked to the crime, as well as to the perpetrators.
NPS investigators and the technical team said they are leaving nothing to chance as they seek to establish the motive behind the fatal shooting of Ong'ondo and to bring all those involved to justice.
“As a service, we urge the public to remain calm and refrain from speculating, as our teams work diligently to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation,” NPS said in statement signed by Police Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga.
The NPS advised individuals not directly involved in this investigation to refrain from making comments that could hinder ongoing efforts.
Ong'ondo was shot dead on April 30, 2025, at around 7:30pm along Ngong Road at a roundabout next to Nairobi Funeral Home, formely City Mortuary.
He was in his son's white car. His killer was a pillion passenger on a motorcycle that trailed his moves from Nairobi CBD when he left parliament after the day's business.
He was a member of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
