The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) has expressed support for the Catholic bishops' recent statement condemning the government's failure to address key national issues.

In a press release dated Monday, ACK Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit emphasized the church's role in speaking truth to power, despite criticism.

The Catholic bishops recently accused the government of mishandling the country’s economy, rising unemployment, and poor governance.

Some media reports claimed the ACK did not align with this stance, which Archbishop Ole Sapit described as “dishonest and misleading.”

“We fully support the Catholic bishops’ statement. Calling out the government on issues such as punitive taxes and unresolved disappearances is not only accurate but necessary,” Ole Sapit said.

The statement highlighted the hardships Kenyans face, including inefficiencies in education and healthcare systems, forced evictions, and unresolved murders.

“Who should be held responsible if not the government?”  Ole Sapit questioned.

The ACK called on leaders to address these challenges with accountability and urgency.

“It is time the government realized that empty promises will not solve the problems Kenyans face,” added Ole Sapit, referencing Proverbs 29:2, “When the rulers are good, the people are happy. When the rulers are evil, the people complain.”

Last week, the Catholic bishops criticized the government for neglecting public welfare.

Their statement came amid growing public outcry over rising cost of living, unemployment, and limited access to basic services.

The ACK’s endorsement of these concerns signals unity among religious leaders in advocating for change.

The Anglican Church urged the government to prioritize transparency and time-bound interventions, especially in sectors like medical care, which, they said “cannot wait.”
