Just after Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) had issued a statement addressed to the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) requesting that the parties resolve the ongoing teachers' strike through a dialogue, the employer has responded.
TSC through the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nancy Macharia has requested Kuppet to comply first with court order after which they will engage in the dialogue.
"The commission is ready to engage with you at the earliest opportunity once you comply with the orders of the court," Dr Macharia said in the letter issued on Thursday by TSC Secretary Cavin Anyuor.
TSC confirmed that all salary arrears owed to teachers as of July 1, 2024, have been paid, addressing the concerns raised by the union.
"The commission has duly implemented the final phase of CBA 2021-2025 and paid all teachers the salary arrears back dated July 1 2024," she said.
This development follows a meeting held on August 21, 2024, at the Kenya School of Government, where both parties discussed the issues at hand.
TSC has maintained that Kuppet and any other teachers' Union(s) should comply with a Court Order issued on August 27, 2024, which requires the union to withdraw any ongoing industrial action.
