Liverpool continued their strong start under new manager Arne Slot with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday at Anfield.
Luis Diaz opened the scoring with a spectacular goal 13 minutes into the match, while Mohamed Salah sealed the win with a second goal 20 minutes from time.
Despite Brentford's efforts, including two close-range headers, they couldn't break through Liverpool’s defence.
Slot, who succeeded Juergen Klopp, has now led the team to two straight 2-0 wins, setting the stage for a tough upcoming fixture against Manchester United.
Captain Virgil van Dijk praised Slot’s impact on the team, acknowledging that while Klopp’s era was remarkable, it’s now time for Slot to build his own success.
Elsewhere, Newcastle United spoiled Bournemouth’s 125th anniversary celebrations with a late equaliser in a 1-1 draw.
Marcus Tavernier had put Bournemouth ahead in the first half, but Anthony Gordon rescued a point for Newcastle with a goal in the 76th minute.
Bournemouth thought they had scored a late winner in stoppage time, but Dango Ouattara's goal was ruled out for handball after a VAR check.
The draw leaves Newcastle with four(4) points from two(2) games, while Bournemouth remains winless.
In a high-scoring match, Chelsea thrashed Wolverhampton Wanderers 6-2, with Noni Madueke scoring a 15-minute hat-trick.
Despite controversy surrounding a pre-match social media post, Madueke delivered a standout performance, helping Chelsea secure their first league win of the season.
Cole Palmer provided assists for all of Madueke's goals, and manager Enzo Maresca was pleased with the team's vibrant display, emphasising the versatility of his young squad.
