To boost food security in arid and semi arid areas of Tharaka Nithi County, Governor Muthomi Njuki is distributing certified seeds to farmers.

During the launch of the programme in Magumoni Ward, Governor Njuki emphasized the importance of providing farmers with certified seeds to overcome persistent food shortages.

“Our people need support, not just in quantity, but in quality. By empowering farmers with certified seeds, we are taking a crucial step towards a food-secure future. These demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to empowering local farmers and enhancing the agricultural landscape," Mr Njuki said.

Meanwhile, Mr Njuki proposed the subdivision of Magumoni Ward into Mwonge and Magumoni Wards to enhance local development efforts.

“If creating two(2) wards isn’t possible, we must at least double our commitment to ensure balanced growth across the area,” he added.

Additionally, to improve community infrastructure, Mr Njuki pledged to work with the national government on a footbridge linking Kangoro to Karigi road, facilitating safer passage for students and residents alike.

The governor revealed ambitious plans to elevate Mpukoni Hospital to a Level 4 facility. This upgrade will include dedicated wards and essential medical facilities, allowing for better health care services for residents.

Mr Njuki also highlighted a partnership with Safaricom, which has committed to building a modern maternity theatre aimed at improving maternal and child health in the region.

“We are dedicated to enhancing health care standards and ensuring our mothers and children receive the best possible care,” the Governor remarked.
