KDF soldier shot, injured in scuffle with police in Embakasi

A soldier with the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is nursing a bullet wound after being shot during a scuffle with police officers in Kware area, Embakasi, Nairobi, on Wednesday.
The incident began around 1:30am when officers from Kware Police Station, including a duty officer, a non-commissioned officer (NCO), and a crime aide, apprehended two(2) individuals in the Pipeline area during a routine patrol, for questioning over suspicion of being criminals.
While transporting the arrested individuals to the station, an unknown person jumped into the vehicle and violently grabbed one(1) of the officers by the neck, attempting to strangle her.
During the struggle, the two(2) arrested individuals joined the altercation.
The two(2) soldiers, who police said were handcuffed, began shouting at the one who had jumped into the vehicle to grab the magazine, prompting a discharge.
Police said the team went to the station where it was found that the soldier who had wrestled with the policewoman had sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh and was bleeding.
The other officers said they had sustained bruises on their bodies in the struggle.
According to the police, upon arrival at the station, the other two(2) were uncooperative, continued to be violent at the station and refused to identify themselves.
They were, however, subdued and a search revealed that they were KDF soldiers - one(1) from the Kenya Army and two(2) from the Air Force.
They also presented a military ID for the injured suspect.
The injured suspect was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital for treatment.
Detectives from Embakasi have launched an investigation into the incident.
