Kenya and Uganda recorded mixed fortunes as the East African Community Inter-Parliamentary Games got underway in Kampala.

At Lugogo Cricket Stadium, Kenya delivered an impressive start by defeating Uganda in the men’s tug of war.

But the hosts hit back in football, edging Kenya 2–1 in a spirited match played at the Philip Omondi Stadium

Kenya’s Bunge FC, co-captained by Rarieda MP Dr Otiende Amolo and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot, played their opening match against Uganda and conceded two early goals in the first half.

Kenya came back fighting. Elly Letipila pulled one back after the break, giving the visitors a lifeline as Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, who is leading the delegation, watched from the stands.

The second half saw Kenya tighten its defence, but Uganda held on for a 2–1 victory.

Kenya’s men’s and women’s tug of war teams delivered dominant performances on the opening day.

The men’s team, captained by Tigania West MP John Mutunga, overpowered Uganda in a double fall after a tense contest at Lugogo grounds.

The women’s squad, led by Kakamega Woman Rep Elsie Muhanda, swept through their opening fixtures with total authority.

They crushed Uganda and South Sudan, collecting a maximum six points. Uganda and South Sudan follow with three points each, while EALA sits third with two.

PSC Commissioners Joyce Korir, Faith Gitau, Racheal Ameso and Patrick Makau led the cheering section as the Kenyan delegation celebrated the wins.

Team Kenya resumes competition on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Lugogo.

Both teams say they are confident of stretching their winning form.

The strong start comes on the back of Kenya’s earlier dominance in athletics, underscoring the team’s growing presence at this year’s regional tournament.
