Kisii nominated MCA, 16 others charged with malicious damage to property

Nominated Kisii Member of County Assembly (MCA) Gaudencia Omariba was on Wednesday arraigned and charged with malicious damage to property.
Also arraigned alongside her were 16 youths rounded up by police on Tuesday shortly after a raid at Kisii Woman Representative Donya Toto's offices.
Among the suspects were two(2) high school students on vacation.
A male suspect with sight challenges was among them.
Property worth Sh200,000 was vandalized, prosecution told the court.
The Appellants herein, read the charge sheet, are charged with the offence of malicious damage to property contrary to Section 339(1) of the Penal Code.
The particulars are that on Tuesday about 2pm at Daraja Moja in Kisii town, with others not before court, Ms Omariba and co-accused wilfully and unlawfully damaged property valued at Sh200,000.
They denied the charge before Resident Magistrate Wahinya Kugwa.
They were freed on a cash bail of Sh10,000 each or a bond of Sh50,000 with a similar surety.
The Magistrate ordered that the case be mentioned on December 4, 2024, and the lawyers assured the court they will turn up.
The suspects were represented by lawyers George Morara, Hilary Ongori, and Sonye Ondari.
