Machakos Woman Representative Joyce Kamene has called for the immediate arrest of a suspect who sexually abused an old woman--97 years old--at Kyakatulu village in Matungulu constituency, Machakos.

Ms Kamene said it was unacceptable that the suspect who is known was still walking free even after the family complained to the Police.

Speaking when she paid a visit to the elderly lady at her home on Saturday, Ms Kamene said she would follow up with the police to ensure justice was done.

"I saw the report of the sexually abused lady on social media and today I have visited the victim and heard from her," said Ms Kamene.

She said nothing had happened since the family made the complaint.

“It is unacceptable that this can happen to a nonagenarian, and we just keep quiet as if nothing happened. I will pursue the case with the police to know why it is dragging,” said Ms Kamene.

A family member said whenever they enquired the progress of the case from the police they were only given the response that police are investigating.

The family member said the suspect was a known offender who had similar cases pending but had not been arrested for the latest case.

Contacted, Matungulu OCPD Charles Muthui said that they will forward the file regarding the rape of woman to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on Monday for further directions and actions.
