A total of 339 murders have been recorded in the country so far in 2024, compared to the previous two(2) years.

According to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, this is a slight increase from the 336 cases reported last year.

While expressing concern over the rising cases, IG Kanja urged Kenyans to report any suspicious activities.

"The attention of the National Police Service is drawn to the disturbing pattern of murder cases reported to the police in the last two months," IG Kanja said.

He said investigations into other murders reported in recent days were ongoing.

This comes as media reports indicate an increase in kidnappings and murders in various parts of the country.

Recently, the body of Willis Onyango Ayieko, a human resources manager at Wells Fargo, was found in Mungowere stream in Khwisero, Kakamega County, who was initially reported missing at Siaya Police Station on October 21, 2024.

IG Kanja further said the body suspected to be that of Dela Ward MCA in Wajir County, Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, who went missing in Makadara Nairobi on September 13, 2024, was not that of the said ward representative.

"Based on DNA samples from the body and the mother of the MCA, the post-mortem analysis by Kemri and Government Chemist have not matched and concluded that the body is not that of the said MCA," he said.

He said DCI Wajir will open an inquest on the body while DCI Makadara will continue with investigations on the MCA's case.

On the killing of a family of three in Eastleigh, IG Kanja said the bodies were awaiting autopsy on Friday.

Dahabo Daud Said,38, Amina Abdirashid Dahir in her early 20s, and girl Nusayba Abdi Mohammed were murdered and their bodies dumped at different locations.

This led to protests by Eastleigh residents on Thursday demanding justice for three(3) locals brutally murdered by unknown assailants, resulting in a complete shutdown of businesses in the area.

IG Kanja said there's another case of James Nyaata Onchiri,62, a lawyer in Kajiado County, which is still being investigated.

He said five suspects appeared before the court for remand orders and the investigating team was given five(5) days till 28 October 2024 to complete investigations.

He said Seth Nyakio Njeri, a 23-year-old girl whose body was discovered at her boyfriend's house in Blessing Building, Biafra Estate, Thika town on October 14, 2024, died of asphyxia due to manual strangulation and suffocation.
