A suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of Willis Onyango Ayieko, the Human Resources Manager at Wells Fargo, has been arrested.

The suspect was flushed out of his hideout in Nairobi's Dandora Phase IV on Monday night where he had rented a house.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), on Tuesday said that the suspect (who is being held at Muthaiga Police Station) was placed at the scene of the crime through forensic analysis as part of the forensic-led investigation being conducted by a joint team of DCI's Homicide, CRIB and Operations detectives.

“The investigation is ongoing and the team is analysing vital clues to identify and arrest further accomplices,” the DCI said in a statement.

A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out on Ayieko's body on Tuesday at the Lee Funeral Home where the body was taken to establish how he died.

This will also form the basis of the case detectives are preparing.

Among those questioned so far are two M-Pesa agents based in Siaya.

This comes after it emerged that Ayieko's killers withdrew money from his mobile phone through mobile banking.

The agents are expected to help detectives identify the men who withdrew at least Sh100,000 from different locations in Siaya between October 19 and 20.

A team of detectives from Nairobi joined the local team on Thursday last week and said they were following up on good leads in his brutal murder.

Police are investigating murder and robbery with violence in connection with the incident.

Ayieko was a licensed gun owner. His pistol with 14 bullets was among the valuables stolen from him.

The family had reported him missing on Monday October 21, before his body was discovered on October 23.

Police said the body was badly decomposed when a student discovered it near a stream in Nyamninia sub-location within Gem Yala, Siaya County.

He had bruises on his face and stomach, indicating that he had been dragged on a rough surface.

The body was half-naked and appeared to have been tortured elsewhere before being dumped at the scene.

The killers then drove his car to Sabatia area, in Kakamega, which is a few kilometers away and abandoned it on the roadside.

On Tuesday, October 22, his vehicle was found abandoned near a petrol station in Sabatia, Vihiga County.
