Murdered Wells Fargo human resources manager Willis Onyango Ayieko died of head injuries.

Chief government pathologist Johansen Oduor said the injuries caused bleeding in the brain.

“There was bleeding in the brain. There were also bruises on the wrists caused by some handcuffs that were found on him. There was also missing tissue on the mouth, ear and cheek,” Dr Oduor said.

He explained that the missing tissues were a result of animal predation in the area where the body was found.

“They were caused by aquatic animals like fish and crabs. We found a dead crab on the clothes. We think they were attacking the soft parts of the body,” he said.

The family's pathologist, Prof Emily Rogena, who was also present, said that she agreed with the findings.

The exercise was held at the Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi and was attended by the family members.

Others who were present included Siaya Governor James Orengo, MPs Sam Atandi and Elisha Odhiambo. Martin Nyuguto, the director of homicide at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, was also present.

A suspect linked to the gruesome murder was arrested in Nairobi on Monday.

The arrest followed a multi-agency investigation, police said.

The suspect was flushed out of his hideout in Nairobi's Dandora Phase IV on Monday night, where he had rented a house with proceeds from the heinous crime, police said.

The suspect was placed at the scene of the crime through forensic analysis as part of the forensic-led investigation being conducted by a joint team of detectives from DCI Homicide, CRIB and Operations.

The investigation is ongoing and the team is analysing key leads to identify and arrest further accomplices, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said.

Among those questioned so far are two M-Pesa agents operating in Siaya.

This comes after it emerged that Ayieko's killers withdrew money from his mobile phone through mobile banking.

The agents are expected to help detectives identify the men who withdrew at least Sh100,000 from different locations in Siaya between October 19 and October 20, 2024.

A team of detectives from Nairobi joined the local team on Thursday last week and said they were following up on good leads in his brutal murder.
