KNEC to introduce an SMS-based verification.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will introduce an SMS-based verification service in April to allow parents to confirm that their children have been registered for national examinations.
KNEC Chief Executive Officer Dr David Njengere, speaking in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, during the release of the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination results, said the service will target learners in Grade 6, Grade 9 and Form Four.
“In April, we will provide an SMS service that will enable parents to verify whether their children have been registered for the examinations,” Dr Njengere said.
He said the initiative is intended to address the persistent challenge of candidate registration, which remains one of KNEC’s biggest operational hurdles.
“The biggest challenge we face is always the registration of candidates. Parents must take an active interest in finding out whether their children in Grade 6, Grade 9 and Form Four have been registered,” he said.
KNEC administered examinations across 30 subjects, covering a total of 74 papers, during the latest national assessment period.
According to KNEC, the examinations were distributed through 633 distribution centres nationwide to ensure timely and secure delivery to schools.
Marking was conducted by 30,980 examiners, who were deployed across 40 marking centres countrywide.
