A police officer is among two suspects arrested on Monday in connection with the theft of a motorcycle in Machakos town.

The owner of the motorcycle told police that he had parked it in front of a building in Machakos Township while he went into a shop to buy some items.

When he returned, he discovered that his motorcycle was missing.

The owner immediately sought help from members of the public and reviewed CCTV footage from the area, which allegedly showed two suspects stealing the bike.

“The two were later physically identified by members of the public as Martin Mbuthia and Moses Ngatia--a police officer attached to Machakos Police Station--who were later cornered by members of the public,” reads a police report in part.

The stolen motorcycle was eventually found abandoned near a mosque.

The officer-turned-suspect and his accomplice are cooling their heels at Machakos Police Station, pending arraignment on robbery with violence charges.

“The motorcycle was kept at the station as evidence,” the police report added.
