Police in Kasarani Sub-County, Nairobi, are holding two(2) suspects in connection with the mysterious death of a middle-aged man, Joseph Njoroge.
The suspects, identified as Njoroge's girlfriend and his close male friend, are currently in police custody as persons of interest.
According to sources familiar with the case, the incident occurred during a party on Wednesday night.
Njoroge allegedly became enraged and tried to stab his girlfriend but was restrained.
He then allegedly turned the knife on himself, stabbing himself in the thigh.
However, Njoroge's family dispute this account and insist that foul play was involved in his death.
Kasarani DCIO boss Justus Ombati said investigations into the circumstances surrounding Njoroge's death were ongoing.
Police plan to ask the court for more time to detain the suspects while investigations continue.
The incident comes just days after a 20-year-old woman was arrested and detained for 14 days as police investigate the alleged murder of her husband.
Hegrah Bonareri Wanjiku, a mother of one(1), is suspected of killing Patrick Mwaniki Njagi at Ngamate Apartments in Zimmerman, Nairobi, on August 24, 2024.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Corporal Charles Ombogo told Makadara Principal Magistrate Mary Njagi that Sospeter Gaitho reported the matter at Kasarani Police Station.
Police arrested Ms Wanjiku after the witness told police that a man had been stabbed to death at the block of flats.
The suspect, the officer said, would be taken to Mathari Mental Hospital for psychiatric evaluation before being charged for the alleged murder.
The deceased, a mobile phone technician in downtown Nairobi, was allegedly stabbed in the chest during a domestic dispute.
"This court has granted the officer's request considering the gravity of the offence and the fact that a life was lost. I hereby grant the application for 14 days' detention," the magistrate ruled.
Ms Wanjiku will be remanded in custody at Kasarani Police Station until on September 10, 2024, when the matter will come up for further orders.
