The late Ol Kalou Member of Parliament David Njuguna Kiaraho was on Friday laid to rest at his Tigoni farm in Kiambu County, bringing to a close a week of mourning marked by tributes from across the political divide.

Kiaraho, who was serving his third term after first being elected in 2013, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026.

High-level leaders attend final farewell

The burial ceremony attracted top national leaders, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, and several Members of Parliament.

The leaders, who spoke during the solemn service, largely avoided political remarks and instead focused on condoling with the family and celebrating the late legislator’s life of public service.

The service was held at Island Farm in Tigoni and was presided over by clergy from the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), the church closely associated with the family.

Week of mourning marked by national tribute

On Wednesday, residents of Ol Kalou gathered at the proposed Nyandarua University grounds for a public memorial service that drew thousands of mourners.

President William Ruto, Deputy President Kindiki, and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula attended the service, reflecting the late MP’s national political profile.

Kiaraho was popularly known among constituents as “Daddy wa Power” for his development record and philanthropic engagements in the constituency.

Parliament honours colleague with hymn and Hansard record

Speaker Wetang’ula led tributes in describing Kiaraho as a disciplined and respected legislator whose contributions in Parliament reflected consistency and professionalism.

He said the MP’s election for three consecutive terms demonstrated strong public trust in his leadership.

In a symbolic gesture, the Speaker presented the family with a compiled record of Kiaraho’s Hansard contributions since his first election, capturing his parliamentary work over the years.

Members of Parliament in attendance, led by Majority Leader Ichung’wah, also sang the hymn Cha Kutumaini Sina in honour of their departed colleague, in a rare moment of collective tribute on the national stage.

Ruto: ‘He was focused and development-driven’

President William Ruto described the late MP as a focused and hardworking leader who consistently prioritised development in Ol Kalou.

He said Kiaraho’s engagements with the national government were largely centred on infrastructure and service delivery for his constituents.

“Every time I was invited to Ol Kalou, it was about development for the people,” the President said.
