Rt Rev Patrick Munuve was on Sunday ordained as the new Bishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) - Diocese of Machakos in a colourful ceremony presided over by ACK Archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit.

The ceremony at the All Souls Cathedral in Machakos was witnessed by political leaders among them Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Senators Agnes Kavindu (Machakos), Daniel Maanzo (Makueni), Joyce Kamene (Machakos Woman Rep) and hundreds of christian faithfuls.

Rev Munuve takes over from Bishop Joseph Mutungi who has retired.

Speaking outside the church after the ceremony, Wiper Leader Mr Musyoka cautioned the government against intimidating the Church and called on church leaders to be steadfast in defending the rights and freedoms of the citizens.

He said the government was also targeting Governors perceived to be in the opposition.

“Governor Wavinya (Ndeti) is being targeted simply because she is not toeing the line of those in leadership at the highest level. They sent the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) recently. The EACC should not be weaponized against those exercising their constitutional rights,” Mr Musyoka said.

‎The Wiper Party Leader also claimed the EACC was targeting Trans-Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and had secured a warrant of arrest in order to intimidate him.

On her part, Governor Ndeti pledged to work with the church to better the lives of the people especially the vulnerable and less privileged in society.

“It is God's will for you to serve as Bishop here, and as a government, we will stand with you as you do the Lord’s work. Tuombee kanisa liendelee kusimama,” she said.

‎Governor Ndeti called for continued collaboration between the Church and government in promoting integrity, unity, and moral values in society.

Bishop Munuve outlined his vision for the church which is anchored on five(5) strategic pillars including spiritual growth, community engagement and social transformation, resource mobilisation, leadership development and capacity building, as well as environmental stewardship and institutional sustainability.
