Triple murder suspect Hashim Dagane linked to yet another macabre killing

Homicide detectives investigating the tragic murders of a mother, her daughter and her 12-year-old niece have linked prime suspect Hashim Dagane to the murder of another woman in Nairobi.

The remains of the fourth victim, one Deka Abdinoor Gorone, who was reported missing at California police station nearly two weeks ago, were found badly mutilated and dumped in Lang'ata cemetery on Thursday last week.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that while following up on crucial exhibits recovered at the scene, the detectives proceeded to a Quickmart supermarket within the city where it was established that the victim was a lady who was captured by CCTV cameras while shopping on Tuesday last week.

A probe into her movements established that once done with her shopping, the lady proceeded to an apartment in Lavington, where she was yet again captured by the CCTV cameras while entering the said premises.

"Armed with crucial leads, the detectives have established that the lady was in the company of Hashim Dagane, who was residing in the said apartment where the duo spent time before Dagane was on 31/10/2024 captured leaving the apartment carrying two bags suspected to have contained the remains of the victim that were later in the day discovered at Langata cemetery," said the DCI.

Police have linked the owner of the apartment to the crime after it was discovered that he attempted to conceal the activities that took place at Hashim's house.

"It has also been verified that after Dagane left the apartment, the owner discovered what had happened in his premises, went ahead and cleared the mess, had the rooms re-painted, and thereafter went under. He is being sought, and it is just a matter of time before he is smoked out of his hideout to face relevant charges," the DCI added.

DCI boss Amin Mohamed said the remains are being subjected to forensic analysis to ascertain the identity of the victim even as he pledged commitment towards ensuring justice for victims of the two unfortunate incidents and possible involvement of the suspect in other criminal activities in the country.

The shocking revelation now kicks off the unravelling of the activities of the former police officer who has been in the country illegally, running a taxi business under the guise of being a Kenyan.

Last week, Amin said detectives probing the triple murder case had closed in on his accomplices who would be arrested and arraigned in court soon.

"We were able to identify the persons behind that heinous act, and we are closing in on them. Very soon you will hear from us. They will be arrested, prosecuted, and taken to court. My appeal is that there should be no panic," Amin said during a press briefing in Nairobi on Wednesday afternoon.

Already, detectives are holding an unnamed suspect, who is assisting with the ongoing investigations.

Amina Abdirashid, her aunt Waris Dahabo Daud, and her niece Nuseiba Abdi Mohammed were abducted on October 21.

Their bodies were discovered with stab wounds the following morning in different locations including Bahati in Makadara, 6th Avenue Parklands, and Khyumbi in Machakos, with Waris's hands severed.

Further, on October 23, two human hands were found on Five-Star Road in South C.

A post-mortem revealed signs of severe torture, with Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor confirming that Waris was strangled and her hands amputated, while Amina died from a stab wound that punctured her heart.

"The stab wound went to the heart. We believe she died of stabbing," Dr Oduor said.
