The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has set party nominations for Saturday, September 20, 2025, as it prepares candidates to contest ward by-elections in Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet) and Tembelio (Uasin Gishu).

The by-elections for the vacant MCA seats will be held on Thursday, November 27, 2025, after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) gazetted a schedule for all pending by-polls.

The commission has also published timelines for voter inspection and campaign periods ahead of polling.

The Metkei ward vacancy arose after former Metkei MCA Lawi Kipng’etich Kibire resigned in February 2025 and was subsequently elected Speaker of the Elgeyo Marakwet County Assembly.

The Tembelio vacancy followed the elevation of former Tembelio MCA Evans Kapkea to the position of Uasin Gishu deputy governor in 2024.

UDA’s nomination notice confirms the party’s timetable for aspirant registration and the fees and procedures to be followed.

The party opened the registration window earlier in August and set a closing date for nominations ahead of the September 20 exercise.

Interested candidates have been asked to register through the UDA portal.

The IEBC gazette notice that set the November date also lists a broader slate of pending by-elections across counties.

Other wards named for polls on November 27 include Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Chemundu/Kapng’etuny (Nandi), Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), Kariobangi North (Nairobi), Kisa East (Kakamega), Mumbuni North (Machakos).

There are also Narok Town (Narok), Purko (Kajiado), Nyansiongo, Nyamaiya and Ekerenyo (Nyamira), plus Lake Zone and Nanaam (Turkana).
